00 — Overview
About Kestrelhum
A for Griffintown and the Sud-Ouest, and a small advertising desk that sells three placements to the businesses along the same streets.
Who we are
Kestrelhum started as a weekday newsletter for people living near the Lachine Canal who wanted local news without scrolling through citywide coverage to find it. It has since grown into a small news site with a companion podcast, still focused on the same stretch of the city: Griffintown, Old Montréal, Pointe-Saint-Charles and the streets around Wellington.
Kestrelhum is a publication name; the site is operated by STINGRAY RADIO INC., a registered Canadian company. Editorial decisions and advertising sales both run through the same small team, with a clear line kept between the two.
We're not trying to cover all of Montréal. Keeping the coverage area small is what lets us know the streets, the businesses and the recurring stories well enough to write about them properly.
What we do
Alongside daily coverage, we sell three fixed advertising placements to businesses who want to reach Sud-Ouest readers and listeners directly: a newsletter sponsor note, a podcast segment, and a longer campaign that combines both with a seasonal guide.
- Sud-Ouest Note Sponsor — a 50-word note in the weekday newsletter
- Canal Walk Podcast Segment — a presenting credit and host read across four episodes
- Full Sud-Ouest Campaign — a five-week combined campaign
Where we are
Our office is registered on Rue Wellington in the Sud-Ouest borough of Montréal, and our coverage follows the neighbourhoods around it: Griffintown, Old Montréal, the length of the Lachine Canal, and Pointe-Saint-Charles. If a story or a business sits outside that area, it generally isn't something we cover or a placement we can sell against.

Who provides the services
Editor
Assigns and edits daily coverage, and reviews every sponsor note and podcast script before it runs, for tone and disclosure.
Advertising coordinator
Handles booking, scheduling and the summaries sent after each placement runs, and is the first point of contact for advertisers.
Podcast producer
Records and edits the podcast, and works with sponsors on the phrasing of each host read ahead of approval.
How we work
Local first
Coverage and advertising both stay inside Griffintown and the Sud-Ouest rather than spreading thin across the whole city.
Editorial review
Every sponsored note and host read goes through the same review step before it publishes, with a plain sponsor label attached.
Direct communication
Advertisers deal with the same coordinator from the first message through to the closing summary.
